Jun LIU
Dr. Liu Jun graduated from Sun Yat-sen Medical University with a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine in 1997 and obtained a Doctorate degree in Neurology from Sun Yat-sen University in 2002. From 2006 to 2008, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in the United States.
Dr. Liu has long been engaged in basic and clinical research on neurological diseases. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various neurological disorders, with profound clinical expertise particularly in the basic and clinical research of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, cerebrovascular diseases, and radiation-induced brain injury. He is also highly skilled in treating headaches, dizziness, various neuromuscular diseases, neuroimmune diseases, peripheral neuropathy, insomnia, anxiety and depressive disorders, as well as multiple difficult and complicated neurological conditions.
In recent years, Professor Liu has published 74 SCI papers in major domestic and international journals such as Nano Today, Biomaterials, and JBC, including more than 50 papers as the first or corresponding author, with the highest single-paper impact factor of 20.722. He has also co-published 28 papers with others. He has served as the chief editor of 3 monographs and a contributor to 1 foreign language monograph, including editing China’s first monograph on injuries after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Neurological Injuries After Radiotherapy for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. He has applied for 2 international invention patents and 1 domestic invention patent, and obtained 2 national computer software copyrights. He has presided over 6 general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), more than 10 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and 1 major collaborative innovation project in Guangzhou. He also led a sub-project of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s “15th Five-Year” Plan and participated in the national key R&D program “Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease.” He serves as the unit head for the China Old Age and Aging Study (COAST Study) and established the first AD database in South China. His honors include the Second Prize of the Guangdong Medical Science and Technology Award (2022), the Third Prize of the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (2012). In 2015, he was invited as the guest editor-in-chief for a special issue of BioMed Res Int. Since 2016, he has hosted the annual “Yat-sen Dementia Summit Forum.” He was named “Chinese Outstanding Young Neurologist” in 2017 and “Guangdong Outstanding Young Medical Talent” in 2018. He has been repeatedly selected for the “Lingnan Famous Doctors List” and “Yangcheng Good Doctors.” Since 2021, he has served as the Associate Editor of the authoritative international Alzheimer’s journal, Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (Impact Factor 4.472).
Professor Liu currently holds positions in several academic organizations. He is the Deputy Director of the Institute of Neuroscience at Guangzhou Medical University, Director of the Neurology Department at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Head of the Cognitive Center, and Director of the Neurodegenerative Diseases and Cognitive Disorders Specialty. His concurrent academic roles include committee member of the Cognitive Impairment Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association’s Neurology Branch, Vice Chairman of the Alzheimer’s Disease Chinese (ADC) branch of the China Geriatric Health Care Association, Chairman of the Cognitive Medicine Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association, Chairman of the Neurology Professional Committee of the Guangdong Association of Grassroots Medicine, Chairman of the Alzheimer’s Disease Professional Committee of the Guangdong Society of Precision Medicine Application, Chairman of the Dementia and Cognitive Impairment Professional Committee of the Guangdong Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, and review expert for the NSFC general and key projects.
