Li Tong
Dr. Tong Li graduated from the Faculty of Clinical Medicine at Wuhan University of Science and Technology in 2004. After obtaining a Master’s degree in Surgery from Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2007, she underwent four years of standardized residency training in intensive care medicine at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. In 2012, she began working in the Department of Intensive Care Medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and obtained a professional Doctorate degree in Intensive Care Medicine from Sun Yat-sen University in 2020.
Prior to joining Guangzhou United Family Hospital, Dr. Tong Li worked for 5 years in the Liver Surgery ICU of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and 9 years in the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. Dr. Tong specializes in perioperative monitoring, treatment, and organ support management for critically ill patients undergoing major surgeries, including liver transplantation, organ cluster transplantation, Chinese citizen donor maintenance, and surgeries in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology. She is skilled in the individualized treatment of sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). She possesses extensive practical experience in various extracorporeal life support technologies, including plasma exchange (PE), bilirubin adsorption, continuous bedside blood purification (CBP), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and mechanical ventilation (MV). Furthermore, Dr. Tong is proficient in various bedside procedures and monitoring techniques, such as emergency endotracheal intubation, CPR, arterial puncture, ultrasound-guided deep vein puncture, and thoracic/abdominal paracentesis. She excels at using bedside ultrasound (cardiac, lung, diaphragm, and abdominal ultrasound) for precise and rapid patient assessment, as well as bedside bronchoscopy and various hemodynamic monitoring techniques (Swan-Ganz pulmonary artery catheter monitoring, PICCO, etc.).
In 2015, Dr. Tong traveled to the University of Regensburg in Germany for training in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). In 2016, she attended the “Lund Concept” training series at Lund University in Sweden. In 2017, she went to the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen University in Germany for specialized training in intensive care medicine. In 2019, she completed several AMEE courses and obtained the ESMEA certificate. Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Tong combined her overseas ECMO training with her clinical experience in 2020 to design and develop a high-fidelity ECMO simulation teaching and training course for frontline medical staff. The course was widely acclaimed, and the relevant results were published in the Chinese Journal of Medical Education.
